8 Ohm plus 4 Ohm?

My head has a maximum of 4 ohms. It can take two cabs however.

therefore I could not plug two 4 ohm cabs straight into the head.


however...My avatar has two parallel outputs. If my cab is rated at 4 ohms, and I daisy chained another cabinet to it, would that make 2 ohms be going into my head? or still 4 ohms?

basically, I have a 4 ohm cabinet and I want a way to add another cabinet to it. how is this possible?
 
If the amp is not rated to 2ohm and/or below...8ohm + 4ohm=Blown amp (unless wired in series) and that = lower amp output.

But you probably will not be using maximum output and depending on the volume you expect, it may not be that much of an issue.

Actually, think of impedance in terms of minimum rather than 'maximum'. Its the minimum impedance that determines if the power amp in the head can supply the higher current to the speaker load without burning up its components. Two 4 ohm cabs in parallel (the usual wiring config) will yield a minimum 2 ohm load. The optimum config, for an amp which can only support a minimum 4 ohm load, would be 2-8 ohm cabs in parallel for a 4 ohm load, or get a head that can handle a minimum of 2 ohm loads and provide the power output you think you need into 2 ohms. That way you could use your existing 4 ohm cab and add on another 4 ohm or an 8 ohm cab.

Ok, how about this scenario then (I hope this doesn't completely hijack the thread, but it's a similiar situation anyhow):

My amp (hartke model 2000) has 2 seperate outputs, currently I'm running a single no-name 15", if I use the other output to run to a 2x10 does it matter what Ohms the 15" is or are the two seperate outputs completely independent of each other?
 
You may have two output jacks, but I've seen nothing from Hartke that says the 2000 has two separate outputs. It only mentions that it has one power amp section. So it does matter what the impedance is of the other cabinet you want to plug in. The two jacks are most likely parallel outputs of the same power amp. Check the link below:
