8 String Acoustic bass guitar?

I know ESP and Schecter have made 8 string basses in the style of a 12 string bass. I played one years ago and it was a lot of fun.

Where can I find an acoustic 8 string? At least at a reasonable price.

Does not exist. Very few 8 string acoustic basses available. All of them are from high end builders. I am aware of Rick Turner and Emerald making these on request.

OP required there to be one that exists at a reasonable price. The Emerald 8 was $4170. No idea what the Rick Turner 8 strings run, but I would be surprised if it is under $3K and I know it would be over $2K. I do not know what is reasonable to OP. However, I suspect those are higher than they were hoping for.

Oh I fully understand it was not defined by OP and should have been. I also understand we are in highly specialized space. I suspect someone using ESP and Schecter as reference points for 8 strings is not operating in the over $2K is reasonable world (their 8/12 string models that I am aware of are sub-$1K). I am not saying they make bad instruments, but the price league is definitely different on the 8 string acoustics. Apologies to OP if my assumption is wrong.

To your point... I think Emerald Basses are reasonably priced for what you get (go find another large bodied carbon fiber acoustic). Love my 5-string Balor bass.

Hey mapaleglow, using the separate tail piece to take the string tension off of the bridge is a great idea!
I bet the top would bulge or the bridge lift without it.

That’s cool. How is the string balance? How long have you had it together? I have an 8 string I use a lot. I really enjoy it.

Thanks! Strings are well balanced. I made the conversion is 2017. I posted about it in another build thread Better the Devil you know.

There are a number of 8 string baritones out. Seems to me you could pretty easily adapt one of those.Invalid Link Removed
