I was just looking through my local guitar store's catalog and I saw a Schecter Omen 8-String bass. The first thing I noticed was that the neck was thin, and then the strings were really close to each other (like in groups of 2, there's a E string, and a thinner string right next to it, and than the A etc.) I've seen this with a 12-string as well. Why is it like this? Isn't it supposed to be like those massive 11-string basses with super wide necks?

8-Strings and 12-Strings?

the 8-string is just four course of two strings each, the thinner string an octave above the thicker one. (Like a 12-string gutar you play the two strings close to each other at the same time.) The 12-string bass version is the same, except 4 courses of 3 strings with a double high octave. So, really, it's just a souped up 4 string bass.
Very fun and easy (IMO) basses to play, not scary at all. I just got one and am enjoying it a lot. My 5 string hasn't gotten any play since I got my 12ver, except for today. I just brang it to my local music store to get setup but once I get it back I will definitely be playing it nonstop. They sound awesome!

i am really interested in 8 and 12 string basses. i played an 8 not to long ago and i love it. i didnt lose very much of the speed that i had built up. they are awesome instruments.
Its a Turner Renaissance Fretless 8. Custom made; I believe its the only one. Its strung with Acousticore nylon strings. The semi-hollow body is flamed myrtle.
