800w amp to 1000w can

Hey guys, I have a Markbass 800w amp at 4ohms. I am plugging it through a Genz Benz 410 4ohm 1000w cab.

Is this a good thing?

Agreed. You will be fine. Just keep in mind that this does not mean you can just pound on the amp any way you want. You still need to pay attention to what your speakers are doing when you are playing.

Thanks Bfunk! I’ve always been confused about this under powering the cab scenario. I was combo user for the most parts, and now going to head-to-cab. This is great information and I will be aware of the speakers.

The bottom line is use common sense. If the cab is farting out, you are driving it too hard.

IMO, this stuff would be a lot easier to understand if they just didn’t put power ratings on speakers. Most of the time it doesn’t really tell us anything useful, and, as BFunk said, you still have to use your ears to be safe. I would pay no attention to the Watts rating on your speaker.
