Okay, I'm putting together an 80s band. Reunions mostly that sort of thing. Everything from psychadelic furs to Van Halen. Help me put together a set list.

To name a very small few:

Van Halen - The Full Bug
Bon Jovi - Living on a Prayer
Pink Floyd - Another Brick in the Wall Pt2
Aerosmith - Dude Looks Like a Lady/Rag Doll
Warrant - Sometimes She Cries/Heaven
Judas Priest - Another Thing Commin'
Iron Maiden - Wasted Years
Was Not Was - Walk the Dinosaur
Motley Crue - Girls Girls Girls, Wild Side, Home Sweet Home

Don't forget to find some 80's country to blend into your list too. You wanna try appeal to everyone if you're seriously thinking about playing things like re-unions.

Without knowing your instrumentation or vocal capabilities, it's kind of tough. Personally, I shy away from the big, bombastic American music (i.e. hair metal, etc.) and opt for the New Wave English/Euro pop stuff - which I think is a lot more interesting and sophisticated...

Got keyboards?

  • China Girl - David Bowie (lyrics are kind of misogynistic, but a cool tune)
  • Don't Dream It's Over - Crowded House
  • The Metro - Berlin
  • Something About You - Level 42
  • Pump It Up - Elvis Costello
  • Sweet Dreams Are Made of These - The Eurythmics
  • Would I Lie to You - The Eurythmics
  • Good Thing - Fine Young Cannibals
  • Maneater - Hall & Oates
  • I Can't Go For That - Hall & Oates (OK, so they're American. Stylistically, it's still a fit...)
  • Stepping Out - Joe Jackson
  • Is She Really Going Out With Him - Joe Jackson
  • Big Time - Peter Gabriel (can you pull off the sound?)
  • Psychedelic Furs - Love My Way
  • I Ran - A Flock of Seagulls
  • Cherry Pie - Sade
  • Paradise - Sade (can you groove like Paul Denman? ;))
  • Careless Whisper - Wham
Of course, you could always go for the American stuff of the time, like REM, The B-52s, The Talking Heads or The Pretenders (OK, British/American)...

The only thing I can suggest is play stuff a majority of people want to listen to... no obscure music-wanker stuff. People in bars don't usually appreciate your selection like other musicians would...

Devo - I Can't Get No Satisfaction cover
Simple Mind's - Don't You Forget About Me
Billy Idol - White Wedding

I've been dying to play these, but no bands I play with will have it. :crying:

Tons of Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen you could play.
