810 louder than 215 cabinet?

Thanks for the info. I just got a Fusion 550 to go with my Avatar B212. It is plenty loud but I might just get the GK 412 for those REALLY loud gigs

Just get another Avatar B212, thats what I did when I bought my 300 pro

yeah i thought about that.
i looked at what i think might be a semi accurate response curve of an ev15l and it looked like in the 100-400hz region they are about 93db...add another 3db for the extra driver...so 96db might be about what that mesa cabinet would measure. who knows though.

i'm kinda thinking the impedance curve of the 810 might work better with my svtII as well.
oh well, i'll know soon enough.

I had a 1976 Ampeg 8x10 and a 2x15 with Eminence Betas. The 2x15 was considerably louder than the 8x10. Why? The speakers were more efficient. There's factors to consider other than surface area of the cones. Look at the specs on both cabs and factor that into your decision.

That is correct. A 1976 810 was rated to handle about 250w back in the day and used drivers more suited for guitar because higher xmax speakers didn't exist, so it only makes sense that you could crank a 215 loaded with Betas louder. However, take a current 810E and it'll smoke the 215 with Betas because the 10" speakers they use have more xmax these days.

I've actually been doing that for my outdoor shows. Although I am using separate heads for each cab, but it works great.

Maybe drop some neo 15's in your one 2x15 cab? Might be an economic solution.... Buys you 3db or so.

In most cases, 8x10 cabs will be louder in the mids, but not always, compared to 2x15 cabs.



Get another GK Neo 2x12 and stack 'em vertically. That's the best you could do. Definitely, do not mix a 2x12 and 4x10.

Why not? I'm not being snarky here, just curious... I know common wisdom says don't mix speaker sizes, but I run a GB Uber 212 for small to medium sized gigs and add an Uber 410 for louder ones... I've tried the 410 on top, which seems the most logical, but usually prefer the 212 on top of the 410... Seriously wondering is I should've just gotten two 212 cabs or the Uber 810 instead of this mixed configuration, not that it sounds bad at all. Lots of folks run a 15 beneath a 410 or something and seem to like it.

By the time you get that loud, Fletcher-Munson says anything will sound good. If anyone disagrees, won't matter, you'll see their lips moving but all you'll hear is 'peeeeeeeeeeeeee'.
