Not so much in the band I work for because Paul Allender is endorsed by Blackstar these days, so we usually get given a few of those little HT5R things for the inter gig tour truck jam sessions.
Don't go anywhere near New Zealand these days though, cos some ultra right wing reactionary religious snugglemuffin's keep nicking all our merch and anyway they don't have a PA system or monitors in the whole damn place that could pull the skin of a rice pudding.
No wonder you lot are so worried about loud stage volumes.

In my professional experience the best way to reduce distortion in any audio system is to increase the size of the rig to a scale and power that results in lower cone excursion and far more amplifier headroom than is required for the level you need for the performance.
Amplifier Inherent redundancy and high loudspeaker count are useful in obtaining absolute best coupling efficiency. Those are a clean audio's systems vital allies.
Less is never more in bass guitar rigs, only in transport considerations is that a workable theory.:bassist:

^^^ This - is why we run 16 900w 18" subs, and eight 1300 watt powered 215 mains. It's loud and clear with plenty of headroom. My rig is an SVT-6Pro running four Hartke cabs, two 410's and two 115's, same thing - lots of clean headroom.

Vector automotive had a philosophy: why make a small engine do a lot of work when you can have a very large, powerful engine doing little work?

And since when does a bass player have too much bass? :D :bassist:

I'm wondering why some people feel the need to make stupid, judgemental comments on the gear choices of others... It makes you look like a tool when you make blanket statements that don't take into account that maybe gig needs/situations can vary widely...

And even if some gear isnt warranted some people like gear, even big gear. I get just as much enjoyment out of gear as I do playing bass. I dont treat gear as just tools, its part of the fun. There is nothing wrong with that.

With you 100%, and also +2 to what George said.

I'm 6' 5" tall. I drive a big car. I like small cars and drove them in the past for various reasons, but I am no longer jibbed by my friends for driving one any more.

I also look at it like this - my wife has a miniature dachshund, and I have two American mastiffs. I try not to walk the wiener dog without one of the others with me - it's just embarrassing! Neither would I show up to one of our shows with a 110 and a 200 watt class-D and then ask to get bumped up a bit in the PA when our drummer has a $10K plus Mapex kit and two 100 watt full guitar stacks on the other side. It just wouldn't work; well, I guess they could bring a couple of Gorilla practice amps and mike them up, but I digress.

At the bottom of your article the court cases from wearing the shirts in public are all Australian and UK. Move to Iceland? Did the band really think we would be more permissive than Aussies or Poms? Just more organised keeping down nun porn than expected.

Note use of c word rhyming with "smallest piglet" in the article. We get our priorities pretty ******* good sometimes.

Instead of letting some knob profit off abusing nuns and clogging up courts with misguided youths, we have summary judgement from the cops at point of sale, fight it in court if you like.

I know where I'd rather live. ;) Where guitards could only afford halfstacks so monitor systems have never got too silly. Biggest I've played through was a 2x15 JBL that would have done a bar gig by itself.

I loved my old JBL K140 2x15 still use the drivers in my rehearsal PA:-)
My old mate Nick moved to Christchurch a while back, miss him loads, he is very happy there. He's an awesomely great bass player and Violinist see if you can catch him play if he does anything near you.
