9 string basses???

I was wondering if any knows of a company that has a 9-string bass, other than a custom shop. im looking for a "production" 9-string not a custom. I already own a 6-string and am looking for an extended range bass that matches up with an 8-string guitar tuned to drop E, however all or most of the custom shops are way out of my price range and i prefer to buy new. Any thoughts?

$1500 would be awesome, but i might go as high as $2000, im not even sure if im gonna make the switch to 9-string cuz i like 6 soo much, i traded my german warwick corvette standard 4-string for an ibanez btb 6 string and im super happy, even tho my warwick was awesome. im still a big warwick fan but i dont got $2500 to $4800 to drop on the bass i want, lol.

Conklin makes 9's, but you are about $10K low. There is one for sale at the vintage guitar store on Rte. 9 south in Freehold NJ. I forget the name of the store but if you call Raritan Bay Guitar Repair in Freehold it is right next door and they will give you the name and number. I am not sure what they are asking for it as it is an estate sale piece.

Nothing functional. I think there's a generic brand or two on e-bay, but nothing that you'd want to play twice.

Production? No. There is an 8-string for sale on the TB classifieds for ~$1500, though. It should be tuned F#-F, but you can throw on some thicker strings and tune it E-D.

Almost forgot about that one. Stambaugh makes great stuff. I've thought about snagging it, but just got a new bass, so naturally there are deals like that when I can't spend the $.

no. the groove tools basses only came in 4,5 and 7 string models.

LOL, it seems like im gonna have to modify my 6 string or spend more for a custom, atleast if i get a custom i'll know that im getting what i want. but (sigh) conklins base price is $6200, and thats way too steep. theres a luthier that runs a shop locally, i've met him a few times and he seems to have good quality standards. his name is John Thayer, i'll call him and see what he can come up with. thnaks for all the replies.

You can also buy some heavier strings and tune in fifths. E-B-F#-C#-G#-D#. That should get you close.

Circle K Strings may be able to help you out with a set for that too, and at far less than $1500.

thats what i meant be modify my bass, i'll need to get a new nut and do some truss rod adjustment nothing major.

You also want to rethink your amplification. It takes a serious and expensive system to produce but gargle from a 9 string bass.
I don't understand your struggle though. Sure you want a 9 stringer but how do you need one? 5 strings are more than enough to play with any 8 string guitarist.
Unless you want to strictly double his lines that is, in which case an octaver pedal will save your band a lot of money.

i have an ampeg v4b that i put 6550 tubes in and for some reason it loves extended range. well like i said im in into extended range and i love my 6 string so going to a 5 string wouldnt that be cool, lol. plus i've been lookin for a 9 string for some time and thought that talkbass would give me a good solution.
