Double Bass 90 degree sound post

i have been struggling with getting my soundpost back into position, as it took a trip south over the winter. The position on the back is marked, but the underside of the top is not. Any tips on ensuring the post is standing straight? Considered inserting a grabber tool with a piece of thread to and hold it next to the post to allow gravity to do its thing, but alas, the instrument has quite a pronounced roundness to the back, so not 100% sure when it is sitting completely flat... Any suggestions??

Since at least one end is at an angle, you may need to use a post setter to rotate it. When it fits, it is "right".

As an experiment I bought for a few dollars a pair of crucible tongs that are about 14 inches long. I am going to bend the fingers by 30 -45 degrees and use the tongs to pick up a fallen post, hold it upright with the setter slot pointing the right way, and pull it into position. I haven't had time to do this yet but will report its success or failure. Do you have the basic tools to ensure that the post stands "vertically", and the top and bottom fit when the post's grain is at 90 degrees to the grain in the belly? A light source, mechanic's inspection mirror, a small metal ruler, and pieces of coat hanger wire fashioned to pick up the fallen post, to hook the post towards you and to form a rudimentary setter (by flattening the end into a spade point with a hammer)
