90's Ibanez ATK

I recently got a '95 Korean Made ATK for a cheap price at a local pawn shop, with some minor problems. One of the previous owner(s) decided to make the first position of the selector switch shut the pickup off, and the input jack can crackle loudly at times.

And another thing, how do 90's ATK's compare to the newer ones? Am i better off just getting this one repaired?

Keep the 90's ATK and get it fixed up! I had one of the Japanese 90's made with the Jazz style pup and triple humbucker at the back. Awesome!

I bought a 90s japanese very recently... keep it, you won't regret it! In my opinion, they sound and look way better than the newer ones.

putting in a new jack will take all of 30 minutes at most if you're handy with a soldering iron, and a barrel jack won't run you too much money either. as far as the switch goes, it might be a solder break that is causing the short (maybe not intentional) youd have to really look at the switch to see how its supposed to be soldered. I have 2 90s ATKs and one 07 ATK. keep it and get it cleaned up and fixed up man. trust me

I actually just tinkered with it a bit, and it seems the first position works with max volume on my amp. I don't know too much about wiring or soldering, so i'll have to get it professionally done to get a proper diagnosis.

If all else fails many ATK players mod their pickup and preamp by putting in a MM style pickup and a new preamp. I'd only do this as a last resort though the pickup is what gives the ATK it's identity.

I don't know. What I do know is that I have a 90's ATK and it's killin'. It destroys many basses that would cost me a bit more than double the price.

Not necessarily. My Korean ATK is one of the finest instruments I've ever played.

The older ones are better, and the faulty input connection is a fairly easy fix.

Yeah I have had 2 ATKs from the 90's, both were excellent instruments, not just for their price point. Seriously a sleeper hit.
