A bit of a dilema..

I'm new to this band scene.

I joined a band when my friend asked me to join, it seemed fun at first, but now it just seems like a drag.

I joined to take the place of the old bass player, and I think I might know why he left...

1: They rarely let me write my own bass parts.

2: Constant bickering between the other members, we're either playing or arguing.

3: I have virtually no voice in what is played.

4: Sometimes, I don't find it fun to play with them.

We have 2 gigs within 3 weeks and I don't really want to leave them hanging right before a gig without a bass player.

My question is, what should I do? Should I talk to them about it? Should I give them a week notice before I leave?

Any input is appreciated.

if its that disturbing, tell em you'll fulfill your obligations and leave after your last gig, you'll accept no more past that gig.

questions for you:

1. Is this different from what was explained to you when you joined? The old bait and switch?

2. Is being a "hired gun" (which is really what you are, not a full member) good for you? Doesn't sound like it is.

Most of these things come down to "love it or lump it" -- if you were lied to when you joined, or you weren't but decided you want a different situation, play the gigs and then quit. But I would certainly warn them that this is what you're intending to do. It would be crappy to quit the morning after the last gig.

It wasn't really a bait and switch, just I thought I would have alot more freedom in my playing then being forced to play root notes.

If it were a coverband then that is a different story because you can actually make some decent money playing covers.

If you're playing in an originals band you need to be having fun otherwise there is no reason to be there. If you want creative input then you should ****ing have it!! You're not doing it for the money!! DO IT FOR THE LOVE!! and if theres no love... dont do it!

talk to them about it. i think being in a band requires communication.
do the gigs and then leave if you want... or if its really that bad talk to them, then leave depending on what they say.

shouldnt be hard to find another band that you have more fun with.
