I think there's some interesting things happening with envelope controlled effects, but still more room to expand. The Strymon Ola Chorus offers envelope control of the depth, which is super cool. I'd love to see a delay where the delay time was controlled by your playing- short delay times for quiet playing, long delay times for louder playing. Could be very interesting. Or how about an envelope control on octave to adjust the clean blend- harder you play, the wetter the signal gets?

I use my Boss GT-10B for this sort of effect. It has 8 assignable controls which can use "input level" to control any 8 multi-effect parameters at the same time.
Great for applying "inverse" dynamics to a tone, like less delay feedback on harder picking, or more compression as the sound decays, and many other things which defy convensional analog physics.
The GT-10B also has assignable "wave pedal" which is like an internal oscillator used as LFO control over any effect parameter, and the speed can be controllable with the Expression pedal (Dubb Wobble bass?).

I also use a Roland GR-55 synth and bass fitted with the GK-3B hexaphonic pickup, which gives you four different sound sources, including PCM synth and modeled tones, to mix together as a new sound, including using techno drums (if that's what turn's ya dials).
It can also provide polyphonic alternate tunings too.
