A device that keeps a guitar in tune forever.

It will work for small changes, but F=kx for a spring, so if it moves very much, the tension in the spring will change and the tuning will also change. You can't put one of these on a Strat with a tremelo bridge, because it already has a similar device, except that all the strings are on the same spring assembly.
 
If they got together with a company to offer it stock in a guitar or bass, I wouldn't hesitate to get one. This is really an awesome concept and product.

Just like with most "revolutionary" ideas, it's best to try it on an instrument that is dedicated to that instead of botching up one of your favorites on something that might work. Lightwave pickups come to mind for me.

This wouldn't be a bad system to try putting on some midgrade big name basses or mid-boutique ones (Carvin, etc). Steinberger had a good idea with their tuning system, but some people just DON'T want to change some things no matter how good the idea is. I would be interested to see how well this works.

THe guitarist I play with just did some recording and the studio they used had guitars with the intune bridges on them - he loved them. He's contacted the company is attempting to help spread the word at USC music school.
Also, Phil Gates is a cool dude. We've opened for his band a couple of times and he's a really nice guy. Cool to see him in the video.
 
So the spring adjusts tension if the string changes. What happens when you bend a string?

There is a video review from Guitar Player somewhere that addresses this. You can set the tension on the string (via the tuners on the headstock) to a level where string bends are canceled out and the string stays at pitch. If you set them to just below the max tension the bridge spring can counteract, then a bend will overcome the spring's effect and works like a normal bend. Pretty cool.
