As i unplugged the lead the top of the lead just popped off, didn't snap just left inside the bass.

I've had the tip of a 1/4 in. plug stay behind inside an amp. Fortunately, I noticed it and removed the stray metal part from my amp's input jack before it rolled around causing mayhem!

If it had to happen, I'd rather it happen to an instrument, rather than an amp!!!

because then, it would be touchy with all sorts of wild and wacky issues, seemingly spun out of whole cloth, to which you can find no reasonable solution, and just when you think you've found a work-around for the issue, it'd simply disappear. a variation of this problem (or, just for variety, something completely different) will recur every 28 days.

Happened to my amp. I dipped the threaded part of a bicycle spoke into Gorilla glue (just a tiny bit!), and inserted it into the hole on the little spike head piece left behind. Wait two hours, yank it out. No surgery!
