A good bass with some Mid Range

I'm in the market for a new bass and I need something with a lot mid range like a Gibson Thunderbird IV, except I only have about a $1,000 to spend. Have any recommendations?

Really though, there are a lot of basses with midrange. A LOT. G&L L2K's have strong mids though, so do P basses.

I suppose a more descriptive description of the tone you want would help?
