A good, jazzy, combo for $500 or less?

For Christmas, I'm gonna treat myself to a nice combo.
My current bass, a stock Thunderbird IV is kinda **** when it comes to a D.D. Verni, Geezer Butler, Steve Harris puncy/jazzy tone.
Jazzy/punchy metal tones like:

I know there's limits to what an amp can do, especially in my ****** price range and due to my lousy bass, but can you recommend me a good combo around these specs?

Yup, exactly what I was thinking. Would grab one myself if I didn't just pick up a Shuttle 6.2. Here's the TB thread on it..
