A huge audio problem

I didnt know where to post this, but I guess this is better than hopping onto other forums and having to sign up for all of them.

My problem is this:

I use a Yamaha Audiogram 3 to record simple 1 track recordings. I also use Cubase Elements 7 as a daw.
However, every time I open up Cubase, it seems to screw up iTunes, Youtube, and other media players. I often like to look up tutorials/listen to example music while I mix, so this is a huge problem for me.
This only started happening about a couple months ago, when iTunes had one of its "updates" *cough*

usually iTunes is just stuck on 0:00. Cubase works fine. The computer is custom built and still running Windows 7.

A lot of recording software like that takes control of the audio device in a way that prevents other software from using it at the same time. I don't have experience with Cubase, but I'd fish around in menus to see if it's an option in the audio hardware preferences, it'll be something like "allow exclusive control of this device" under playback.

I have that, but when I un-check the box, the input port of the device disappears and I cant use it to record.

what sample rate are you recording at? it can cause problems if you are trying to play files with itunes that are at 44.1kHz and you're recording / playing back audio with the audiogram that is 48k. if this is the case, you may have to switch to recording at 44.1k (there is really no advantage to recording at 48k), or switch the settings on the audiogram between 44.1 and 48k depending on what you are doing.

There's free software solutions like "Jack audio"
But for simplicity and reliability and to keep ASIO I've been using Odeus
