You'd have a cascaded pre-amp. It's more or less what Randy Smith did to a Fender combo as a joke on Carlos Santana, a joke that soon became the basis for the Mesa Boogie amp. About that same time period, 1970, I cascaded the two pre's on a Fender Showman to get enough gain to use it with low impedance mics for a PA, this being before mixing consoles existed. I worked quite well, and after trying it with my guitar I did the same mod to my Twin. I didn't learn about Smith and how the Boogie came about 'til years later.
On bass it probably wouldn't be worthwhile.
