A little advice for flats lovers...

Seems about right . . . I think demanding people to try anything is a bit of a rude way to go about things - but a polite suggestion shouldn't be treated with hostility - Sometimes flats is a good suggestion, even if someone doesn't want to hear it.

Doesn't mean you should harass them and insist they use flats though.

Yes Jimmy, lets get real here ! Anyone who lets themselves be brow beaten into anything on a forum, deserves what they get, be that strings they dont like or whatever else.


Besides, they hardly need "JimmyM, the shining knight in armour" to fight their corner. :p

Same thing for me. So yes, you can use flats for metal, and not just for an Iron Maiden tribute. Death metal on a P with Chromes? No problem!

I used to play dead D'Addario XL's. I've been trying flats a few times, but never quite got used to the sound and feel. So I guess they can be an acquired taste. Nowadays though, I love my flats and would use them for anything!

Not everyone likes being told what to do.

I SUGGEST that you choose a different line of approach as not everyone is clear that they are not interested in specific things.

All the best to you. Maybe someday you'll be a tapewound convert too.

Can't stand anymore to see those "converted to flats" threads...

(not quoting anyone, not mentioning anyone that posted in this thread)

I might have posted in the past in one of those "flats convert" threads because I really liked them when I first tried, but now I still use them but because I'm a wuss and don't want to hurt my fingertips :D

Flats tone is great? Yes, for some genres. But rounds are great for some others. You can play motown with rounds and you can slap with flats, doesn't matter, most audience and most band members won't notice a change in tone.
