Not everybody loves flats. Quit recommending them to people who don't like and aren't interested in flats.

A little advice for flats lovers...

im no expert, but maybe if you bought some flatwond guitar strings you wont be as annoyed by this? always calms me down 
I see no reason to rain on the flat lovers' parade. No one's forcing anyone to put them on their bass, they're just expressing their satisfaction. Maybe I missed an overly enthusiastic thread?
That said, I like the D'Addario tapes on my P-bass and was happy with LaBella 760FL's too. Chromes were OK on my J, but in the end they were a bit too dark sounding, and am going to go back to rounds on that bass and play them to death so they won't sound quite so zingy

Fender 9050 CL 45-105 flats converted me from a roundwound guy for the reasons set forth in the above post. I use them for everything from Friday night to Sunday morning. They growl when you want them to; they are mellow when you need them to be; they are absolutely consistent string-to-string and up the neck; they are economical and last "forever."
Yes, for anybody who has ever said other flats are too dark, or can't get the twang out of their roundwound G string, I'm always going to recommend this set of strings.

Hey, I use flats too, but let's get real here...not everyone likes them, yet so many flat-lovers seem compelled to browbeat folks into liking them.
Oh good I was getting worried, Looks like TB is back to normal.
So far we have another pick vs finger thread and now a round wound vs flats.
Hurry up somebody start a thread about P basses or 4x10 and 1x15 cabinets before the day is over.
Likewise when I was younger flats worked wonders for me, because of the lack of learning good playing technique and they seemed to "cover up' a lot of noise a beginning player can generate.
After becoming a better player I later learned I missed the sustain and punch of rounds, and most likely will never convert back to flats.
In my experience flats dont last as long, they dent faster where the frets are and this causes them to lack sustain or produce more dead fret sounds much quicker than rounds.

I love flats and use TI's and Pyramids, but also use rounds which are more versatile-they can thump!
I don't understand the controversy, get another bass and have it both ways.
I am a huge fan of round wound string because I like it more on how the execution of strum is really there. I guess it really depends on what type of string you use and how the music really goes.
I can cop a flatwound sound from a set of rounds but I can't cop a set of stainless rounds from a set of flats. I'd much rather go with the majority than the minority. Great post JimmyM!!!
Never. I have both rounds and flats on my basses. and have used rounds exclusively for years. I will though offer encouragement that they at least try flats if there's a certain old school sound they are looking for, which was my case. Otherwise go with what fits the music.
There seems to always be something that no one agrees upon. Fortunately we can choose what works and try whatever suits the situation. I have found that I love both for different reasons.
