A Little Experimentation

Specs:

22" scale

Tuned BEADG, like a 5 string bass but piccolo

1/4" thick top

Strat neck pickup

Bridge has 5 piezo discs, one under each string

Controls are volume and pickup blend and it works just fine

Hard maple except for a walnut fingerboard and 2 small Sapelle blocks

No truss rod (already regretting)

Fat neck for stability, since there's no truss rod

3/16" red acrylic back because it looks cool

Purpleheart/Chinese cheapie hybrid bridge

Jaguar body shape, Classical style headstock

5 pounds 5 ounces

Total out of pocket cost maybe $100

I've been toying with the idea of a couch and slippers guitar. Something you can just grab for a quick noodle, never needs batteries or an amp. Enough acoustic volume to hear what you're doing but not the full volume of an acoustic instrument (A feature borrowed from the clavichord).

Influenced by solid body guitars, banjos, ukeleles, and the clavichord. It also makes a nifty travel bass.

It still needs work, here's a few pics of where it's at now.
