A little torn on fuzzes...

So I'm looking at getting a fuzz that can cover from go mild to to well saturated fuzzy goodness. I'm not looking for huge, gritty metal tones, but having the option isn't such a bad thing if it's included is it...;)

So far here are the couple of options I'm looking at a Woolly Mammoth clone or a MXR blowtorch. I'm wanting something I can run along side with octaver to go after some more punchy synth-like sounds. My price range is under a $150, so I'm not quite ready to drop $300 on a boutique pedal that might be what I'm looking for. :rollno:

I'm wanting a bit keep my bass dynamics solid but be able to drive some really smooth fuzz that I can dial down to mild if I need. (So a good bled knob maybe??) I'd just to not have 5+ fuzzes to achieve a nice tonal bliss.

So any thoughts on these couple pedals? Or any others in the ball park of these...and in the price range.

Picked up a DMB Bumble here on TB, VERY impressed with it. Clean blend is a must.

There's also a Pickle Pie B for sale for $160 which is equally sweet.

Isn't that an OD?

I would say the ss/bs TAFM is the way to for verstiltiy. Especially if you get the gated footswitch option.
This does have clean blend.

I don't agree that a clean blend is a must, I have several great fuzzes with tons of lowend without them.

Also OP I think I saw a Frantone LoTone on here for pretty cheap. That is a great Lowgain fuzz that has tons of bottomend with no blend.

Punchy synth-like would require a gated fuzz. Finding something that can do low-gain just as well would be tricky. Perhaps the TAFM with the gated option would work...haven't tried it myself. If synth-bass is the priority, then I'd say check out the Mastotron.

Real estate hog...like the tones but not practical for a small board (my hope).

I'm liking what I hear on the sound sample world of youtube right now. A little different that a Woolly, but with solid definition....maybe a possibility.

on the TAFM...I'm only hearing those grindy tones I really don't like. While still it's a sweet looking box and looks like it should be absolutely stellar for that tone if you like it.

Nah dude the DMB is straight fuzz. It is actually a very good fuzz too.

Tech 21 Red Ripper is the obvious choice. It was closer to $200 when I bought it, but you could probably find one in your price range. Great tones from rock to synthy and everything in between. Can be mild or extremely in-your-face and has a great tone section. It is very compact and I highly recommend it

The TAFM can do a real nice smooth low gain vintage fuzz tone as well as harsh and buzzy, it is very versatile indeed.

Also, I don't agree with the argument about fuzzes with plenty of low end not needing a blend - at heavy settings a fuzz loses it's dynamics, and the blend brings some of that back in!

The Blowtorch is an awesome fuzz!!! The only issue is the power requirement(18v). You can get them really cheap too. A lot of great options. I am currently using the Iron Ether Oxide. Definitely in your range brand new. Good luck finding one used though. They show up and sell almost immediately. Great pedal and Taylor gets them shipped really quickly.

Wooly mammoth is great for synth-like sounds, but not the obvious choice for mild, or for preserving dynamics.

MXR blowtorch is one of the more hated-on bass-specific pedals (and that doesn't mean I don't want one - but only because it looks cool)

I say...

DO IT. Just velcro other pedals on top.
