A neat disco bassline I stumbled across

Obvious Chic influence. Great bassline but kinda overbearing in the track, IMHO. Could be why it wasn't quite a hit. I like it though. Never heard of it before and I was all in the middle of the genre playing it in bands.
Busy yeah but if they smoothed out the track a bit, it could have worked better. It's almost distracting especially for us bass players because it's the first thing we seek out when we listen to a song.

No, no, and no.
A clearly defined and repetitively-grooving, pattern-based bass line with almost no impromptu embellishments, fills, runs. Just a nice bass line (and perfectly situated in the pocket), enjoying the fruits of the proper rhythm guitar arrangement.
Just happily delivering Chic's feel for the audience.
Nothing to do with "awfully busy"...

The following Delegation song has probably, the "busiest" bass line that I've heard.
Just overwhelming Chic feel, groove with a slightly different bass line and a different melodic "contour".

Good songs but the production is subpar. Instrument balance and hard L/R panning are horrible. They could have benefited from a good production team. Man, the potential!
The last thing about that group - Delegation - discovered by "Tupac".
Their first releases/songs were SOOOOO Chic but...
A few years later, they tried to remake the same songs, kind of, try to distance themselves from Chic.
Here is an original - and very Chic - song, Stand Up (Reach for the sky).
And here is their remake distancing themselves from Chic.
A new "feel" and very fresh for 1980.
"She's the brick house" - Sorry,
"Gonna bring the house down."
A nice bass line.

Well if you're going to play Disco music then sounding like Chic is the place to start. Chic was the quintessential Disco Band.
I never really knew what was considered Disco music in '77. But I remember discussing music with a classmate and he was a huge Kiss fan. When I listed the R&B groups I liked (E,W,&F, Ohio Players, Brothers Johnson, etc) he said Disco Sucks. I said man they're not Disco, Have you ever even heard The Isley Brothers?
When I think about that conversation I still chuckle. The thing is I really don't know if I knew what Dico was bit if it sucked it surely wasn't the music that I listened to.

I've always maintained that funk took a big hit in the late '70s/early '80s because it was lumped in with disco. Your musically close-minded classmate's knee-jerk statement doesn't surprise me at all. In fact, there was a disco compilation that included EWF's "Shining Star" and the O'Jays' "For the Love of Money." Ridiculous!!!
BTW, this is the first I've heard of Delegation. Their sound is derivative, but it's good.
