So I did a search and seems its been a few years since this topic came up, though possibly in the wrong forum. I've been on kick of music docs lately. I saw Sound City, Too Fighters Back and Forth as well as the Rush doc and Shadows of Motown. Have any of you gents and ladies seen any docs recently that you think are worthy to take a look at? I got a little bit through the Stones in Ireland , this might get loud, etc. I'd really like a good LZ doc or Beatles doc but I'm open to all suggestions!!! Commence!!!!

I don't know of any Led Zeppelin documentaries, but the best one I've seen about The Beatles is called "The Compleat Beatles".

If you're into The Who, check out "The Kids Are Alright". Also, the "Classic Albums" series has some good stuff... the one on Steely Dan's Aja is really good.

The Muscle Shoals documentary was great. On a recent flight I saw two documentaries - one on Sister Rosetta Tharpe and another on David Bowie. Both of those were really interesting.

Twenty Feet From Stardom was also really good.

Beware Mr. Baker is awesome! Makes you hate and love Ginger Baker at the same time.

I recommend Such Hawks Such Hounds for a good doc on the stoner/doom scene.

Also, Look up Last Days Here about Pentagram's singer Bobby Leibling for a shocking comeback story. Seriously, how that guy isn't dead I don't know but I saw Pentagram last summer and he is very alive!

The Mussel Shoals doc is about the little recording studio on Mussel Shoals, Ala., where a lot of artists in the 60s and 70s went to record. Mostly R&B, Blues, soul singers like Aretha Franklin et al. A good doc. Fun stories about the guy who ran the studio and the house musicians. I would def recommend.

20 Feet From Stardom is about all the backup singers who had amazing voices. I would HIGHLY recommend this doc. A lot of discussion about how "talent" is only a small part of what's required to make it in the music business. Plus, I was just BLOWN AWAY by the voices on some of these ladies. There's a scene in it when one of the singers isn't singing any words but just vocalizing and it is SO beautiful I can't say I've ever heard anything like it.

The Lemmy doc is also just fun and cool and really let's you learn about the guy and his very interesting what you see is what you get lifestyle.
