Original post:

we are looking for a rock band for the 30th of august to play from 6pm - 1:30 am. we would like hard rock and classic rock as well. we will be expecting around 350 people. all accomadtions are available. we will have camping as well if you feel like tenting forr the night. now we like mettalica and megadeath, and the black sabbath, ac/dc , eric clapton, stuff like that. so if you can message back what music you play that would be great. this is at a farm land so loudness and what not is not an issue. but we need to find a band as soon as we can so we can to make up the tickets with your band name on them n so on. also, if you know of anyone that has a chip wagon or truck, we would be interested in that as well. all foods they sell, is all the chip wagons earnings. hope to hear from all bands available and will be voted for hire on best music, and rate. now we are not looking for the beast but reasonable musicians would be an asset. should be a great time as always.

I asked for more details and they sent me this:

the event is a bunch of us and our friends that ride bikes as well, is a get together party for all of us that ride together all season, and we like to hqave fun and just party, anything else you would like to know let me know ok. also how much to play at this event ?

So not sure how to proceed with this, or if this is even legit, Your guys thoughts? How would you proceed?

Seven hours of covers? First thing I'd do is establish what you're getting paid. Then I would collect at least a 50% deposit. I would be weary that they will stiff you at the end of the night, so would try to collect the rest when you start to set up. Pretty big red flag that they can't figure out food on their own.

Sounds like a good time. I have played parties like this. I would let him make the first comment on what they are willing to pay. Might be a lot higher than the rate you would suggest. And if it's not, you just tell him your normal rate. Good luck and have fun

The music isn't what I do, but I'd definitely consider the gig if it was. I can't imagine going 7.5 hours though; I'd suggest getting another band and splitting the bill, at a fair gig rate per band.

And yeah, getting all the details on parking, power, etc. would be a smart move.

Thirty or so years ago I might have jumped at something like this. Now it just sounds like a huge inconvenience and a potential disaster. Outdoors with unknown weather conditions, porta johns, food trucks, bugs, unknown power sources, a field full of amateur drinkers in party mode, tents. I'll pass, thanks.

Yeah, maybe I'm just - Too Old To Rock 'n' Roll, Too Young To Die.

Yeah, the lack of even halfway proper spelling alone is scary.

My experiences with drunken rowdies at a party off the beaten path has not been good.

The risk of not being paid, of being beaten up, of having equipment rain soaked, damaged or stolen is a big concern.

Be careful.........

Deposit down, insurance, and a good pay-packet with food, transport budget, parking, security and accommodation (not tents), are musts if you want to negotiate a gig with a professional band that can handle half the duration required, let alone a 7 hour gig!
Don't think you're gonna get lucky here.... Maybe you're better off looking for amateur bands who are desperate to play.
Good luck is all I can say, you've got your work cut out organizing something like that.

This.
So just wait until one of these drunk gang members wants to sit in or play your gear. Beer spilled in your amp, etc.
