A pledge for potential Squier sellers?

We've all seen listings for 'Fender' basses where the title AND description does not mention Squire anywhere.
Buried deep int the pictures is a Squire headstock.

Tried to buy a Squier Affinity P on CL - the seller wanted Fender USA pricing ($1500 - so it was high for a USA Standard P), got all frantic when I replied a few times about what they really had, and then when I got accused of trying to "steal the food out of the mouths of my children" (yes, really) I told them to let me know if they ever decided to "drop that extra 0 and come down to $150" to let me know (this was when the new "everything in one box" kits were still $300).

Never heard from them again.

Just saying some of those sellers are clueless, too!

I automatically assume any 'Fender' bass on FB Marketplace is really a Squier.

Of course, most of them say 'Squier by Fender', so that doesn't help.

On the other hand, aren't Squiers supposed to be a LOT cheaper than 'the real thing', and no one would ever confuse the two? Hmmmmmm . . . .

I plan on doing it tomorrow...three or four Squier basses, in fact.
Of course it will say Squier In the title and the body, why shouldn't it?
They're Squiers!

I'm not a squier hater, so if I were to sell one, I'd put that name up there proudly.

Two of my favorite basses right now are a pair of Squier Mini-Ps and Fender doesn't even make them. Tsk tsk.

The Squire sub-brand is very different from a (USA made or even Mexico made) Fender.

Squire has lower standards and quality control as they're meant to be beginner instruments. Great to mod, though!

It should be obvious in the listing where something is made and if it's a separate brand or line of instruments from the main company.

i.e. I recently bought some G&L parts that were clearly listed as being made in Indonesia as part of the Tribute Series. There's less of a quality difference here, though and all their pickups are made in the US.

What’s wrong with Squier?

Nothing, but they are cheaper instruments with quality control not usually on par with the Fender basses.
Here is an example of cost cutting measure on a Squier bass you shouldn’t find on a Fender bass.

Here you can see to save time they shimmed the neck pocket instead of removing the the paint and epoxy that spilled over. This a bad short cut but would generally be considered acceptable for an economically priced mass produced instrument from Indonesia.

Nice catch. I never had one; never paid attention to the brand. I never noticed they spelled it differently from the other word meaning "escort". Looks like I'm not the only one who wrote it this way!

Since imma gear snob, I'll never have a Squier, or Squire, or whatever spelling they use, to sell. It does provide a bit of irritainment to see them for sale as Fenders, though.

I have seen this happen with other brands too (G&L Tribute listings never mentioning the word Tribute), but it does seem to happen at a way higher rate with Squier/Fender.

Also I did not vote. Missed the will never own a Squier, so not a problem for me button.

Wiki isn’t always the most accurate place for info but this seems pretty legit why it is spelled as it is.

I'd say my CV50s Precision made in China is as nice, or nicer than my Mexican P bass. I was given an okd Affinity P that is fun to laugh at, Dismal workmanship and QC. But hey, it was free
