A quick explanation for a noob?

Hi, I'm quite new to Bass and have only been playing for a year or so. I was a guitar player beforehand for a few years, but now I play Bass mostly. I'm slowly trying to complete my set-up, and i've been playing with my EHX Bass Big Muff for a while now, but I've got one question that I couldn't find an answer to anywhere and i was wondering if you guys could help me? Sorry if this is stupid, but I've had my big muff for about 8 months now, and still have no idea what that dry out jack is for next to the effect out one. I don't know what I'm supposed to do with it, but when i plug my amp into the dry out, I just get silence. Is it supposed to go into the amp/rest of my effects loop, or am I being stupid and missing something? Any knowledge shined on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bassists!
