A quick question

I am running a GK 700rbII head (480 watts to woofer 50 watts to tweeter at 4 ohms) to a GK SBX 410+ (8 ohms and 800 watts) and a GK SBX 115 (8 ohms at 400 watts). I play my American Standard P Bass almost exclusively.

Does anyone else use this set up? It seems to work great. My only concern is the difference in wattage between the head and cabs. Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Tom

You have the impedance correct. If you don't hear 'farting out' or strange distortion artifacts then nothing is likely to break. If you do hear that stuff then either turn down the low's and / or contour or drop the Woofer volume so you don't damage anything - Every rig has it's limit's. If you want the rig to survive without you spending on replacement parts - the trick is to live within them. So what is it you're worried about ?

Thanks for the quick reply, Mal. I just bought the SBX 410+ cab and was concerned about the wattage of the two cabs (1200 total) vrs. the 480 of the head. I have read some horror stories in other threads about this type of set up causing distortion and blowing speakers.

It's the amp that puts out the watts, the cab is rated for what it can "accept" from the amp as a max. Any "horror stories" must have been from trying to make a 150 watt amp do the job of a 500 watt amp.

I ran my 1200 watt cab (NEO412) from an 800rb (300 watts at 4 ohms) for over a year normally and pretty hard, never a problem.

The only way you are going to run into trouble running your setup like that is *IF* you believe that because your cabs can handle that much power, you think it is OK to max out your amp.

Keep your settings within reason, and listen to your cabs.

They will tell you if there is a problem
