any or most Pressurewound or Rollerwound type strings ... the outer wrap has an Oval shape when wrapped under pressure ... = less finger/fret noise and damage , less highs , smoother feel ...

so the name that keeps coming up were the GHS pressure wounds so thats what I ordered.

I like the nickel rounds but theyre still too bright to me and clanky with finger noise, and then when they go dead they sound terrible to me. Gonna try the pressurewounds, and if all else fails ill throw some chromes on it bc I def dig chromes

Yeah, good choice. My favorite bass (custom sort of jazz type) has PW's on. They were a bit too bright at first, but after a week or two sounded so warm and smooth, but could growl and cut a good bit too. Pretty versatile strings. They also last a LONG time! Don't judge them until you've broken them in a bit!

looking for something thats a roundwound but not super bright.

I use chromes on my P bass. I like them alot but on my alembic EPic I want something a bit brighter for slapping.

I use DA EXL 165 nickels but sometimes I just feel they are too bright.

Any sort of middle ground here?

OK, now I am confused. I currently have PW's and BF's on different bases. I've seen a couple posts like the above saying the BN's are brighter than the PW's. Yet the GHS site (on the bright to mellow chart) has the BN's Between the PW's and BF's. In other words, mellower than the PW's. It can't be both, right?

Dunlop Nickle rounds.

My Kiesel VB5 came with Dunlop Super Brights and the name alone made me think I'd be changing the strings as soon as I got the bass. Despite the name, these strings are not super bright. I was pleasantly surprised and I have left them on after all these months.

I used them for a while and they seemed pretty damn bright to me with stronger mids than the D'Addario EXL170 nickels I used to use at the time.

Based on my experience, I would say the PWs are "brighter" than the BNs in the sense they have a little more punch and crunch, thanks to Alloy 52 and its responsiveness, whereas the BNs are all about the pure nickel warmth and fullness with smooth mids.

I had two sets I tried on two different basses and they were very dull. Maybe I got a bad batch. I'm glad they are working for you though. They seemed promising.
