One last update before I stop posting for the night. When we last left off this bass was about 90% complete with a tru oil finish. Since then a local bassist has fallen in love with it and it will be leaving me very soon. I wasnt happy with the tru oil finish so while I had two other basses getting a lacquer finish I just pulled out another stand and put this bass in line. The body will get a lacquer topcoat but the neck will retain the oil finish. The madrone headplate will be finished in lacquer to match the body. Here are some pics of the body after the final lacquer coat.

This bass is all polished up and buffed out and the wiring is complete. All I have left to do is attach the truss rod cover and finish polishing up the frets.
I hope to get some sound clips as well. Its a funky little bass with great midrange punch. The tones are useful across the spread of the tone knob and all 3 coil settings sound great.

Looks great! That is one strange looking pickup, but I love the look of it, the whole thing flows together really well.

No Rev, I'm not much of a four wheeler myself but my brother is. Alabama is a reknowned mud riding center of the world after all.
My grandfather used this shop for welding and car/truck repair for the last 50 years or so. There are many interesting things floating around back there. When he died a couple of years ago my brother and I cleaned everything up a bit and use it for our personal work. He does mostly small engine repair and I build guitars and furniture. No conflicts there right!
He'll be taking it all over soon though. I'll be living in Austin, Texas in a week and taking all my tools with me.That is a great looking bass, each piece is individually beautiful and all together it is a knockout!
