My frickin' boss seems to want me to work harder and longer hours, but because my "district" was restructured, I am actually making less money than I used to. With the economy the way it is right now, I haven't had a commission check in a while. My salary is okay, but not enough with a pay cut and no commish. I'm not sure what I would do if I would quit and go somewhere else since I'd have to take another pay cut to start over somewhere. Oh, and my family's health insurance premiums are doubling. You know why. So we might have to sell the bike, boat and maybe house to be able to pay for health insurance. I like our plan. I want to keep it.

I'm in crazy pain this morning. My entire back locked up after too many kicks in May Thai last night. I felt it right away. Its going to be a long day today. My back is super stiff right now. I'm even more annoyed that I have tickets to the Raider game on Sunday and I fear that it's going to be difficult to enjoy if this doesn't get any better by Sunday.

You actually went to traffic school? I "went" to traffic school a few weeks ago. I did it online in my pajamas in about 45 minutes. :smug:

Yeah, but their speed should be regulated by the troopers and not vigilante rolling road blocks. Weaving left and right through the lanes to get around slower vehicles causes accidents that wouldn't happen if you could just cleanly pass on the left.

One of the reasons the Autobahn has lower accidents than US highways is that it is unlawful to even be in the passing lane unless you are on the act of passing. They will pull you over and ticket you for just cruising.

The basic clue, if someone passes you on the right, you are in the wrong lane.

The speed limit is 55 in NYC and Long Island, but 70 is the speed that everyone goes when I'm driving into work. The cops don't pull you over till you hit about 80, at the time of day anyway.

If I'm going 70 and someone is coming up behind me going faster, I move over.

But where does it end? If I'm passing a car traveling at 55mph (the agreed posted speed limit) and I merge into the left lane to overtake him while I am traveling 65mph - now I'm 10mph over the posted speed limit - but I am in the wrong because someone else wants to travel at 80?

What if you add 10mph to each of the motorists in the above example? Now you have people traveling 90mph (35mph over the posted speed limit - that's either 5 points on your license in NY or an automatic suspension, I forget).

Btw, I am trained yearly in defensive driving as part of my job. And it is an all day class and driving with an instructor - but if you could hook me up with the online classes Matt I would be very appreciative :D

If you're in the left lane, than yes. If someone is coming up behind you going faster than you and you can move over, than you should move over.



I generally go as fast as all the traffic is moving. I try to avoid being the fastest car on the road. It may not be ideal, but that's how it works. If the speed limit is 55 and that's as fast as you want to go while cars are speeding past you going 75, you should stay in the right lane, not the left.

Well, it was traffic school. The kind they make you take in order to keep a moving violation from being reported to your insurance agency.
Usually one would have to sit through an 8 hour course. Some online traffic schools are also set up to make you sit through an 8 hour course. I found one last month that didnt. It was one of these, I forget which one exactly:

Im not sure if theyre acceptable in your state, but they are certified for California.
I just skipped to the end of each section and answered three questions. At the end is a 25 question final, which you need to get at least 18 correct. If you know your basic traffic laws you should be able to slip all the reading, and finish in 30-45 minutes.

I got my speeding ticket doing 80 in the fast lane, which was the speed that traffic was moving at (15mph over)

That's kind of a cartoony extreme extrapolation. Of course people should not be driving stupid fast, but people shouldn't be blocking traffic either.

It's really simple, don't cruise the left lane. If you are not passing stay right.

If the car in front of you is traveling slower than you want, check your mirrors to make sure someone is not currently passing you. Then signal, check again, and merge into the left lane to pass. Once you have safely passed, get out of the left lane. Keep right until you need to pass again.

Let law enforcement deal with the speeders. Do not make them weave left and right through traffic and mix some innocent driver in their recklessness.

Qu'est-CE que c'est. A common mistake but it really bugs me as a french speaker cause i see it all the time. I believe David Byrne himself made the mistake. the mistake happens because it's assumed the S is Est is pronounced when it's actually silent, Est it's pronounced the same as the french Et. It's Ce (this), that makes the s sound.


I guess this could qualify as a rant. :-p
