A to C for 4-string (Tenor)

Hey all I'm a new member I've came across the site before and now I thought would be a good idea to join.

So anyway I just got a Yamaha TRBL005 (yeah I'm a lefty) and I converted my first bass (a cheap Stagg) to a fretless.

My 2nd bass (a Tobias standard) is the only one I dont use as much ever since I got my 5 string. I thought about tuning it up a fourth higher like good ole Stanley Clarke and Victor Wooten do

The only problem is I've heard storys of necks snapping because of the tension that can happen

anyone got any ideas how to reduce the tension for this type of tuning?

You have to use a set like .030-.80.

ie. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] but discard the bottom E string.

You may also need a setup done.

you mean like ajust the bridge and tuning pegs? :S

Adjusting the truss rod because the tension for A-D-G-C tuning (if you use a .030-.80 or something approx. to that) will be less than that of your current E-A-D-G.

You're welcome. That's what we're here for. And one more thing, you make want a thicker gauge if higher tension if your thing. (ie. .032-.85)

I use a set of Thomastic Jazz Flats EADG tuned up, but wouldn't do this with any other brand, as the tension would be crazy.

Not with Thomastic Jazz Flats, they have really low tension, I wouldnt do it with standard strings.
