I'm not a U-bass guy at all; but even if I were, I'd make that trade, especially if the Foundation has the super-ferrite pickup.
That's all the reason you need. A Peavey Foundation is a MIA model, nice necks on these, has far more uses than a U Bass imo, highly regarded basses. In terms of equivalent trade value, it sounds pretty fair with a slight advantage to you. Also they still make the Kala U Bass, you can pick one up anytime, the same cannot be said for that particular US model Peavey, it's no longer being made.

More importantly important, do you like his bass? Your bass is $229 new - what's it worth - $150 at best? If you like it, you are getting a bass you like for $150. If not, you are trading one albatross for another.

I'd do the trade in a heartbeat because I dont get the ukes at all. The Foundation is a darn good bass.
I'd trade a Peavy Foundation for a Ubass in a heartbeat.
Its an even swap but I've had a few Peavey Foundations and they aren't for me. Never had too much trouble trouble selling them though, but they also don't get snapped up.

I'd trade. I've got a ubass that sits in the corner unused, and a very similar peavey patriot (same, with one less pickup). I play the peavey daily and it kind of irritates me because it plays better than most of the other basses I have had, and it shouldn't, darnit.. I wouldn't gig it because mine is super ugly, but that one looks great.
Of course, I only have one pickup, but my take is that they are very clear, nice sounding pickups. Not a lot of low end, but that's not necessarily bad, and I bet it would help to have two of them.
I'm in the same boat, I recently bought (very, very cheaply) a US made Peavey Fury P bass and I still can't wrap my head around the fact that I prefer it over the MIM Fender P Bass I also have. The neck on the Fury is amazingly comfortable. I've owned a few Peavey basses mind you, most recently the Peavey Grind, a Milestone and a Zodiac DE, I thought they were good basses but nothing extraordinary that made me want to keep them - there's something about these older US ones that really makes them stand out, with the necks in particular.
I do think the Patriot actually looks pretty awesome and wouldn't call it ugly at all but we all have different tastes after all.

The Peavey Foundation is a very sad story from my point of view. Tradition rules and Peavey was the young buck, so they couldn't stick it out. Had they been able to, the "Big 4" classic basses would have been the P, the J, the Ray, and the Foundation.
