yeah, and popularity is the single most valuable criterion to judge musical merit with.

In that case, didn't James Brown have 2 basses in his band at various times? Ditto for Miles Davis and King Crimson.
Heck any orchestra you see has at least 3 basses.

I listened to a few of their tracks since they showed up under related videos for some Goatbomb stuff on Youtube. I gotta say Maria do a great job of fitting two basses, two guitars and keys/violin (plus it seems all six of them sing? or at least five?) in without it ever sounding too busy. No casual listener would ever notice they sound weird in the slightest.

Funny thing is when i listen to music like this it feels like my brain is crashing because i'm used to listen to basslines of songs and when suddenly 2 basses play something different my brain can't handle it

Well, I have to say I was one of the doubters about how two basses would sound together, but I think I just saw the light. I just got back from Niagara Falls where I saw Styx perform. They brought Chuck Panozzo out to play bass on several numbers. Ricky Phillips switched to a double neck guitar for a song or two, but mostly played his bass. Chuck mostly held down the groove with Ricky adding the flourishes. It sounded awesome.
