a two bass band???

It really depends on what type of music you're going to play. There's a sort of sludge metal band called Palehorse that's just drums, 2 bass and vocals. They sound pretty awesome in my opinion. It might not be the most usual line-up, but i think you can make it work.

Possible? The last time I saw the symphony they has four bassists. If you're careful about defining your roles I guess it could sound good, but you could also be looking at a train wreck. I can't imagine two people trying to hold down the bottom end in a rock band at the same time, but maybe one plays the high notes as a "soloist"? Experimentation is a good thing, it can't hurt to try. I'd go into it with modest expectations, though.

How about these blokes? :bassist::bassist::bassist:

"No, from my experience it is not."

from my experience yes it can work & it can be great too. but you have to know your roles. what i do is usaully comp chords while the other bassist is grooving. & switch off when he is going to solo. he doesn't really play chords so he does almost all of the grooving.

my bass is a MTD beast so it is really bright & sounds great with chords & the other guy slings a P bass so we are really at opposite ends of the low end. i also use a chorus to make me sound different than the other bassist. you can't have the same tone & expect anything other than mush.
