Double Bass Abandoned during bass solo

I think I've regaled TBDB with this tale in the past, but this thread needs it.

I used to get calls from a local piano player who played a lot of well paying gigs in hotels and lounges and he often did them solo, but called me or me + drums or sax now and again. So, we're playing in the bar of an Italian restaurant, just the two of us. There's no stage and rather than being in a corner, we were right in the middle of the room, which was kind of cool.

So, we're a few choruses into something and an employee walks through and goes into the kitchen. Pianoman says "man, I haven't seen that guy in ages, bass solo" and gets up and followed him into the kitchen, leaving me in the middle of the room playing x-number of choruses ALONE in a bar. He walked back out, I don't know how many minutes later and said "where are you?". I said "the top".

That, my friends, is being abandoned during the bass solo.
