ABBA

How does somebody possibly compare ABBA to a boy band? ABBA are a group, with the principle songwriters being part of the group. No different than any other band, they are truly talented.

Boy bands, and really all of pop music, especially all the new "R&B" singers like Rhianna and junk, is a total sham, nobody writes their own music or lyrics, they merely possess good pitch, good looks, and a marketable image.

Boy bands are far from the issue with the music industry, the issue lies with the public...

Rihanna? Good pitch?! have you HEARD her live?

When she's knocked out of the park by an X Factor contestant...

A part of me has always loved ABBA. For the naysayers, next time you're at a bar, show, wedding, dance, you name it and an ABBA tune comes on, watch what happens to the dance floor. IMHO it usually turns into wall to wall ladies... :)

Not so sure about ABBA creating their own sound. Their first hit Waterloo (which was a Eurovision winner) took a lot of (ahem) inspiration from Wizzard (Roy Wood previously of The Move, which also included Jeff Lynne who went on to form ELO) and of course both Wood and Lynne took a lot of inspiration from Phil Spector.

Here's some Wizzard from back in 73. Roy Wood went on years later to cover an ABBA song as an ironic tribute!

Not hating on ABBA by the way, spent many hours learning their catalog, excellent bass lines.

I've always been amazed at how in tune they sing.

I got to see Jeff Beck touring with the Beach Boys. Well more Beach Boys than are touring with the beach Boys. Seeing that in tuneness live is an experience.

Any chance of an ABBA reunion?
