I'm not seeing a lot of reviews for this cabinet, especially not recently since AG updated the design. But I'm interested and would welcome reactions and experiences. More on my situation and thinking immediately below. Thanks for reading, folks.
Both of my main gigs involve doubling, and while I like a clean URB sound (like everyone), I like to expand the tonal palette with the slab. Also, I'm spoiled and reasonably content with one or both of a pair of Acme Low B1s running on an AI Clarus or a GK MB500. Like others, I find the Low B1s can sound soft and boomy in some contexts, though this can almost always be managed with EQ.
Not too long ago I sold a couple of Aguilar GS112s, the sound of which I loved, mainly because I had grown tired of schlepping them and equally tired of the monkey fur. But I miss the thunder and projection those two cabs could deliver, particularly outdoors.
I am now searching for a single, lightweight cab that could (1) handle slightly larger rooms than one of the Acmes on its own, and (2) pair with one (or both) of the Acmes. Kind of by chance I ran across an orphaned Bergantino HG310 and brought it home. It is wonderful for the upright (or any acoustic instrument, frankly), but -- likely because it is not ported -- I find it lacks bottom end heft.
I am drawn to the factory direct business model, and I've been happy with my Low B1s. So I also recently picked up an Avatar SB126. It definitely is well-built, has bottom end heft, and gets loud, and when combined with a Low B1 it benefits from the high end articulation of the Acme. And for the price I'm not going to worry about schlepping it around town. But so far I am finding the SB126 is a little boomy in certain frequencies and voicings that seem difficult to manage with EQ.
So: since I've come this far I'm now wondering whether I should just order an AccuGroove Tri 112+ on the theory that the design and build quality, tweeters, and lighter weight might (help) make my GAS go away. ??? If I do this, I'm almost certainly going to have to sell one or two of my cabinets once I have completed the beauty contest.
(I've considered fEARless F112, but I am not going to build my own and so far my inquiries of several of the builders have been met with radio silence. But I know there's lots of love for these cabs around here, too.)
