Thanks very much guys.
I used west systems epoxy on this one as the Redwood is really soft so the epoxy seals it and hardens it at the same time. Having sprayed Redwood before without the epoxy it soaks up loads of lacquer before the pores are filled. At the point above it has a few coats of lacquer as well,this will be sanded back and sprayed until the surface is level then the top coats will go on and it will be left to harden before buffing it out. The neck for this one is away getting LED's fitted and will be oiled.

hey, love that top, works really well with the limba. the recurve is definately my favourite of your designs!

i was wondering, do you epoxy the whole body or just the top? do you then sand it all the way back so its kind of like a really tough grain filler?

I did the whole body. I sand the coat of epoxy to key it so the lacquer has something to bond to but I don't sand it all off. I have done that and it does help with the pore filling but sanding epoxy is hard work and not very pleasant. I work the epoxy in with a scraper and a brush and also my hands in nitrile gloves this gets it into the pores but leaves a very thin layer on the surface. This is then scuff sanded with 240 grit.

I tried to get pics of the LEDs but did not get a pic worth posting everything out of focus,I think I will need to get a tripod which would at least get rid of the camera shake.

I gigged for the first time with my new bass, and I have to say ( I also own a couple of Skjolds, a Zon Custom, a couple of Pedullas, Lakland Joe Osbourne, Wilkins, Overwater, Sei etc), that I was really blown away!

Not only was it the most comfortable bass to play, but it sounded superb, the workmanship is without fault, it even smells great! But do you know one of the best things? Its actually the cheapest bass that I own (by a long chalk). It equals or beats the others in all departments, to the extent that I really dont know how Alan does it for the money. I hope he wont mind me saying it, but his basses must be the best mid-price instruments in the world.

I have just ordered a new ACG Finn with an MM pickup and piezo bridge, which I am already looking forward to, although its many months off, and in the meantime, I might just sell some of my collection, as I cant see that I will ever need them all again.

Craftsmanship, technology and tone, with wonderful value for money. I really am a happy bunny!

Just got this finished and thought they could be brothers.

Stock bass ready.
Spec
Camphor Burl top with a 4 mm Tulipwood accent and a Spanish Cedar body wenge control cavity cover.
3 piece Santos Rosewood/wenge neck with an Acrylic Impregnated Black Limba fingerboard,alloy side dots. 34" scale.
ACG EQ01 pre-amp and ACG FB pickups ceramic magnet in the bridge Alnico magnet in the neck.
Hipshot Type A bridge and Ultralites,schaller straplocks.
Finish lacquer.
