Hi Alan,

I'm curious to know what the Camphor top/back have been treated with in these pics...is it just spirits/naptha or something like that, or is there some actual finish on there (and if so, what type)?

It's coming along very well!

Hi Basschair
It is just wiped with white spirit which I think is mineral spirit in the US.
At the moment it is just sanded to 120 grit so I use the spirit to remove the dust from any scratchs so I can see them. I let it dry out then resume the sanding. It also gives you a better idea of how it will come up when finished. In this case with AC lacquer which won't make it quite as dark as the spirit.

Nice work! Excellent detail.

I'm curious how you did this headstock laminate.....It's curved!

I carve the neck to make a smooth curve then glue on the veneers.
The camphor is then wetted to make it bend more easily and then glued and clamped with a flexible clamping caul to make it follow the curve.
If all goes well the headplate does not split and follows the curve.
