Allz I can say right now is wow. This is everything I hoped it would be and possibly more. So much so, I forced myself to do a demo video, something I'm not a fan of doing for reasons unkown.

Anyhow... I love my original Acinonyx. Only thing I wasn't nuts about was the fact that for the most part, its a relatively old school sounding bass. I only ever really play it with the tone wide open, rarely fiddling with the other tone switches. It does what it has to, sounds great, fits in any mix, is fun to play - but I always wished it went to 11. I couldn't get any kind of Stingray sounds out of it, nor some of those real biting modern tones.

The new Acinonyx, IMO, hits that 11 mark, and then some. I'd say it goes to 15, and I think others might want to hear that.

This is brand spankin new. It will come on stage with me first time this Saturday, and of course I will report back.

Joe,
I've never heard of this brand of bass before. Thanks much for the video demo.

So Carey Nordstrand began his career as a luthier. Building basses turned into designing pickups. That took over the business almost exclusively. In came the Goya Panther, courtesy of Juan Alderete (Racer X, Mars Volta) and it inspired the Ah SIN Ah Nix. They are manufactured in Indonesia and the V2 basses are assembled here in Redlands, CA.

Thanks much for the info. Quite a history lesson there.

I think the reason it has more dynamics is that it's body is light-weight (basswood?) and responds more from player input than a heavy slab of wood would. A heavy bass relies more on the pu output for dynamics, but won't transfer playing technique as physically. As an example - the difference between a hollow-body and solid body. A hollow-body will respond more to player input, resonationg through the body, amplified by the pu's.

I like the design (based on the '60s Goya Panther, as mentioned above - 5th pic) overall but prefer slider switches like on my 3 pu ESP/Grass Roots Bass IV. (based on the Fender VI - first 3 pics) The Goya had separated push-button tabs which are easier to engage.

It's interesting that 3 pu basses are starting to appear of late, including Fenders' Rascal from a few years ago. (turquoise bass) Burns of London (last pic) was probably the 1st 3-pu bass produced. (mine is a '63)

As said above, the Nordstrand Acinonyx is a reimagining of an Italian design of old, with a more explicit feline name:
Carey Nordstrand’s Modern Version of the Goya Panther!

The Panther was distributed in the States under the Goya marque (originally of a New York importer, the Hershman Musical Instrument Company, it was acquired in 1967 by Avnet, also owners of Guild at the time) and made by the Zerosette company, with part of the production at times subbed to Galanti, both companies (more famous worldwide as accordion makers) based in Italy's main musical instrument district, whose main centres were the cities of Recanati and Castelfidardo, near Ancona in central Marche, at the foot of Mount Conero, a salient landmark of the Adriatic Sea coast.

I have a V1 and love it. I may pick up a V2 also. Do those single coil pups produce hum? Are they hum canceling?

There was a video/post I saw (possibly on IG) saying they do hum as individual single coils and some combo positions are hum canceling. This is the case with the v1 (hum solo, cancel combo).
