Acme + Walkabout Thoughts

Right now I push a Walkabout through two Aguilar GS112's... sounds great, is really portable (my back gave out years ago), and is plenty loud. I only have one small complaint, it's a bit too scooped in the mids to be up front in the mix.

So I've been thinking about adding a pair of Acme B1's plus another Walkabout to drive them. I'd still be portable, a bit louder (with all four speakers) and I'd be more up-front in the mix.

Any thoughts?

I don't know, the Acme's are very flat EQ, so no inherent bump to the mids or low mids there, so no inherent benefit to your mix placement. Plus even though they are small, they are dense, so you'd end up carrying more weight when loading in and out. Plus they are more inefficient than the Aggies, so you'd need to crank the second Walkabout higher... it just seems like a complicated mess with no useful benefit.

I would steer you to trying to find a cab or pair of cabs which are as efficient as possible, in order to maximize the juice from the one Walkabout you already have. Ideally with neo drivers. Schroeder maybe?

I was thinking about another Walkabout anyway... as a backup. The addition of another set of speakers is a natural progression. I don't think I need a mid-bump, just not a mid-scoop in the other set.

I may have to try the Schroeders if I can find some in northern Minnesota.

FWIW I play fretless 5's and an EUB.

if you dont mind the weight of the GS series, then you should try the DB112's. they have a more prominent midrange for a nice sweet lower mid to middle mid bump.

the acmes will need a touch more power than the walkabout can muster. i say 300 watts per speaker, at least.

I just went from a ACME Series II 2x10 (50lbs) to a
Eden 2x10 XST(59lbs). I use a Eden WT-400 and often the Eden
would go into thermal shutdown because the Acme is very inefficient.
Acme SPL is 93dB. Eden is 104dB. The difference is night and day.
The Eden goes as low as the Acme and much louder.
If you're playing rock I would think twice about the Acme. Very soft sounding cab
My bottom line on the Eden was-one cab that can do it all.
Eden is well balanced for carrying.
