so when looking for a new cab stick to 4ohm, why does it work with 2 8 ohm cabs then does it cut them to 4 ohm when doubled up is there any good sites for learning about amps and how they work thanks for helping me.

i have 1 more question i think i know the answer but ive heard diff so gonna ask can i run a cab thats rated at 400watts at 4ohms with a 100 watt head i kno u wont get all u can from the subs but it wont hurt anything rite, the only time u hurt something is when the head is to big watts wise for the speakers then u will blow the speaker rite.thanks
It's a lot more complicated than dividing by two, though. Just so happens that when you connect two 8 ohm cabs up in parallel that you get 4 ohms. But if you try to hook up an 8 and 4 ohm cab in parallel, you get 2.67 ohms, so you can't divide by two. It's some formula that I never bothered to remember, so I just take the word of someone who knows what they're doing when it comes to impedanceBecause it works in a divide by 2 equation. When you put 2 - 8 ohm cabs in parallel you divide by 2 and get a 4 ohm impedance.

A 100W head will work fine into a 400W rated cabinet. Your at 25% of the rated power at that point and quite within the saftey region. The manufacturer is saying the voicecoil will take 400W of power (or heat) before the voicecoil starts to deteriorate. At 100W your are far below that limit.
