Acoustic 370/301 + SWR?

I may have the opportunity to buy these. They are only sold together per the seller. What do you guys think these might be worth? I've always wanted some vintage amp gear. Thanks!

No clue about the SWR gear, but I've wanted that 371 (370+301) rig since my stoner days in the late 60s/early 70s. I'm sure there are others out there with similar unfulfilled dreams.

They pop up on ebay occasionally in varying condition. Any that I have seen and might have been interested in were ~$1000 or more. Too rich for my non-gigging blood (not to mention my weary back).

Grab it all! Sorry, a 301 is easy to move. I did it for years and deeply regret selling my 301.

The SWR stuff looks to be from the version II era. This is their best sounding vintage and quality was high. This stuff made them successful (although what you really want is a goliath II 4x10).

However, the goliath II, jr. 2x10 and son-of-bertha 1x15 make a great pairing. I think that is a 220 SWR head. The pre in those is excellent. All IMHO.

The SWR gear is early Workingman's series. The first generation Workingman's gear was still hand built in California and is great 'entry-level' hi-fi stuff. The head is solid state (no tube pre) but has a similar control layout to the early hybrid heads they made (220, SM-400). I'd grab it all just to get that Workingman's stack - it's definitely built to last.

Acoustic 301=earthquake.
Red-faced bartenders will be screaming at your frontman and gesturing in your direction as they point to the broken liquor bottles that vibrated off the shelf. :bawl: Too bad/so sad.

Low watts/high yield.
Feed that sucker a coupla hundred watts and hide the children. No other cab I've ever used even comes close to the low watts/thunder factor. I got mine in '72 & ran it for years with a MusicMan HD130.

Not onstage user friendly.
4 ohms. Hard to hear. Needs 10's. So you'd better have a 2 ohm amp. I've got a pic somewhere of us at an outdoor show with the Ac 301/Berg NV610/Mesa 400+ combo workin'. It slays. I only use it for outdoor shows. If you get the 301 by it's self, indoors, up to jammin' levels onstage, you are pulverizing patrons at the back wall. They screamed something about a tidal/sine wave as they disinigrated... :bassist:

Buy a Suburban...
It is easier to move around than a 410 but it's BIG.

Mine's not for sale. :p

370 head is worth $300-$400 used. The cabinet, maybe another $300-$400. Not too many of them floating around complete with both head and cabinet these days though.

I run my 370 through 4x10 and 2x12 Avatars. Sounds like a cannon. Won't be needing anything new/different for bass -- I've run the 370 since '99, originally with Carvin cabs then went to the Avatars after people raved and raved about them here.

370 can be run 2 ohms. My two Avatars are 4 ohm cabinets. In fact, I really don't think the 370 shines into an 8 ohm load, just not enough juice going out to really get to what it sounds like.

Thanks for the replies so far. The dude is SET @ fifteen hundie. Thats alot of scratch for me at the moment, but I may also have a crack at a 361 rig for two hundie. Thats more like it. Does anyone have any info on the differences/preferences between the two other than less power in the 361. They're both 18" folded horns. And I realize both are heavy. Thanks for any info as I may be picking up the 361 today...Got my big rig ready.

Wow I wish that deal was offered to me ! I use a 370 with a 4 ohm SWR Big Bertha & an 8 ohm Goliath jr III (about 3 ohms) sounds incredible. I have the 301 cab also. I'm looking for a spare 370. ( I like running the mis matched load , the amp has a 2 ohm minimum so no problem there.) If you get those rigs make sure to experiment (mix & match). Have fun !!:cool::cool:

Opinions Opinions. Get the 360/361 better sound. The $1500 is a lot unless you need the SWR. 2K is too much for a 360 setup. You've got to really want this stuff. It's like buying a vintage car. If you want daily trans look elsewhere. If you want it for what it is get it and enjoy. Same goes for this gear.

What do you really want? Are you happy with your present rig? Does it meet your needs?
I have found nice vintage gear. It is in great shape. Priced reasonably well. Does it meet my present tone goals, transportation setup or gigging needs. No.
So I leave it for a collector or someone else who needs it.

Negotiate him down to $1300 cash. Sell the SWR rig on Craigslist for $600 (a great deal for anyone looking for a cool rig). You're into the Acoustic rig for $700 which is probably about right.

Just a thought...:bassist:

+1 to the 370/301 comments. Used one for almost a decade with a Cerwin Vega b36(baby earthquake) on the other side of the stage too....PLUS an SVT with two 8x10's. Manager used to get to shows and on break tell me "I could here you half a mile away when I parked. You're too loud." :-)

Gibson EB series basses(1960's with the mudbucker up at the neck) + a 370/301 = chest-punching at 20 feet.
