john i pulled this from the other thread you started, but i wanted to know, those K140s are vintage speakers correct? i couldnt push those anywhere near as hard as i could a new set of those eminence speakers correct? i think you and monolith have convinced me which speakers to get but before i commit i just wanted your take on why you thought those K140s are the ultimate (also i have a sunn 215 with those D140F's and while they do sound awesome, i worry about pushing them too hard as well).

yes, they're vintage, and they're the best sounding 15 i've ever heard. i've run 600 watts continuous thru a pair of K140's with no problems whatsoever. JBL specs them out to handle 150 each watts at a continuous sine wave which is very conservative, and 300 watts each with continuous program material which i also fiind to be conservative. IME, D140's are good to up to about 75-85 watts and much more fragile.

i've also found that the K140's are also much more sensitive than everyone else's speakers no matter what they state their specs at, and are much louder with less power running thru them. even thought their specs say that they only go to 2Khz, all 8 of mine (with original cones) are good up to at least 4KHz and are brighter and have smoother lows and mids than any eminence speaker i've ever tried (i.e. the CB15, the Delta 15A, the delta pro 15A, the 2515, and the 3015).
