Acoustic amp for acoustic bass?

So, I've been planning to buy an acoustic bass and I've been wondering if I have to get an acoustic bass amp for an acoustic bass. If so, could anyone tell me very good and affordable acoustic bass amps? Or can you just use a normal bass amp?

I'd just use a normal amp that's fairly transparent

There are niche amps marketed toward double bassists that can be quite expensive.

Personally, I've always played my upright through a Gallien-Krueger MB112 (with a Fishman Bass Blender preamp and BP-100 pickup). Nothing fancy, but it works.

Edit: After reading the thread a second time, it sounds like you're talking about an "acoustic" bass guitar? If so, I would use the same setup you use for your other bass guitars.

No problems. There are all kinds of things to think about. If you are using an acoustic bass guitar, then you will have fewer problems with feedback and impedance matching than with an upright bass. If either one uses a piezo pickup, make sure the amplifier you are using is reasonably well matched. If it isn't, it will sound like it's coming out of a bad telephone in a tube or something. If there's a preamp onboard your bass, this shouldn't be a problem. Then it's just a matter of adjusting to the way you want it to sound and dealing with any feedback issues you run across. If you are playing an upright bass, then standing between the bass and the amplifier will make a big difference.

This is an old thread, but I had a similar question so I'm posting it here rather than creating a new one with the same question. I just acquired an acoustic bass (not an upright, just an Ibanez acoustic bass) in a trade. I primarily want it for practicing without plugging it in, but if I did want to plug it in, I was unclear what amp would be best. I have several bass amps but I also have an acoustic guitar amp and I was wondering what the pros and cons are of using one versus the other. I also have Peavey modeling amps that have both bass and acoustic settings so would the acoustic or bass settings make more sense?
