acoustic b20 bass guitar amp

I picked up an Acoustic B20 inexpensively and was generally pleased with it until my most recent attempt. I plugged in my bass turned on the amp and got intermittent clicking and whistling. I could hear the guitar but the whistling and clicking were disruptive. Anyone have any clues?

It looks like the inexpensive aspect of your acquisition just kicked in. Hopefully you feel you got your money's worth out of it and it taught you what you want in your next amp.

Well, thanks for telling me what I already know. I was hoping for something a little more substantial like what the whistling and crackling might indicate with regard as to which specific components are involved and what sort of pre-emptive measures I might take.

Check the input jack by gently wiggling the connector (while in the jack). Also, check the jack nut - is it tight? Turn each knob repeatedly in case a wiper is making poor contact. Check your instrument cable - most easily done by substituting a good one. Good luck.

That's definitely the first thing to check and most easily resolved. The noises you're describing fit this possibility as well.
