Acoustic bass fetish club Part 2

Been gigging with the Ribbecke. Nothing else works for me anymore.

Keeping one of the others but selling pretty much everything else including this one.

Hi everyone!
I have recently noticed, with some dismay, that there is a buzz/rattle which seems to come from the bridge area of my Thunderchief when I play fretted notes ranging from the low F on the B-string to mid-neck notes on the G-string. Open strings don't seem to produce any noticeable buzzing. The buzzing is more pronounced when plucking closer to the bridge. It isn't fret buzz, and sounds more 'wooly' than harsh, if that makes sense. It sounds rather like the buzz that occurs when pickup wires lightly touch the top of an acoustic guitar, but that can't be the cause as this is a purely acoustic bass with no electronics. I have checked the bridge pins and they are all secure. The bridge doesn't seem to be lifting and applying pressure to the bridge doesn't seem to help much. Could this be a loose brace? How could I determine this for sure? Are there perhaps other potential causes that I haven't considered? If there is indeed a loose brace, what would its repair entail (considering the limited access afforded by the small offset soundhole)?
Please excuse the many questions - I would greatly appreciate any input or advice.
Thanks,
John

I've decided, the Dean will remain in CGDAE for the time being.

I considered switching it back to BEADG with tapes a few weeks ago for several reasons: getting tired of recording acoustically, large body size made playing in fifths even more tedious, and I wanted to try something else other than nickel / stainless steel rounds.

But it just so happens that one of Damian's solo pieces (whose playing I greatly enjoy and admire) lays itself out just fine with this tuning. And it made me fall in love with the "large acoustic guitar" concept all over again.

So I'm gonna keep at it for now. Moral of the story, a practice session a day keeps the GAS away!

An inspection mirror could tell you if there's a cracked brace, but it'd be tough, as you say, with that paisley soundhole. Might be luthier time, unless you happen to have an endoscope or an inspection camera..

I think my first move would be to make sure the string ends and pins arent the problem. Are the ball ends seated tightly and are the pins in tight? Next, I'd see if the saddle and slot are level and tight.

Also, loosen the strings and see if any of the screws or bushings on the tuners are loose. While they're loose, check the screw that mounts the neck to the neckblock.

Ribbecke on Reverb
And they're charging for shipping LMAOView attachment 5178027

The Tree: The Four Elements - The Element Earth Acoustic Bass

Price$999,991.98

+ $700 Shipping

The people who own those three instruments are bat **** crazy. You'd think for a million bucks they could throw in shipping....

Tom continues to evolve as a bass builder so his new instruments are better sounding anyway. He just said he's going to be starting Diana V for Jack Casady. Fretless.

I don't think the 5 string version ever made it into production. I would have wanted one!
