Yeah, I get it. That's a nice one. I didn't mean to dump on the ABG, I probably have more total hours on mine than on any of my other basses, it's just that now I've gotten spoiled on the feel and playability of the light Ibanez SRs, particularly the fretless. I acknowledge that the tone of a really top notch ABG cannot be easily matched on an electric.

I really like the ABG I got. It's a fender hotrod and yes like many have said its rather quiet when playing with acoustic guitar. But if I play with a pick it works just fine for an unplugged acoustic jam.

Used it plugged in a for a gig recently mostly for aesthetics(was just me and a buddy 2 vocals, acoustic guitar and acoustic bass at a pizzeria)

I will say that the novelty does wear off and my pbass is definitely more comfortable to play for long periods

I'm playing my pbass today for first time in weeks, and it feels like I'm driving a truck, compared to the Ibanez SR fretless I'm used to. It's strange how we get used to the characteristics of each bass, then find another that we usually love cumbersome when we switch to it after even brief hiatus.

Since I play upright an ABG is kind of an unnecessary item for me, but I do own a Taylor GS Mini bass. It doesn't really have enough volume for unamplified use, except for the most quiet living room jams, but sometimes I record with it plugged in direct when I need a scratch bass track and I'm too lazy to mic up the upright. It can sound surprisingly good for that application.

I know there are others, but the only ABG that I've personally used that was loud enough unamplified for any kind of real world use was an early 1970's Ernie Ball Earthwood bass. I guess those are hard to find, but if I ran across one for a decent price I'd consider grabbing it.

Prices on them are all over the place right now. Reverb has one at 2500, one at 5400, and one at 10,500. The size of the body is what makes them work. The one in my avatar isnt an Earthwood, but same dimensions. Played last night with two fiddles, two mandos, two guitars, and a banjo. The bass worked just fine.

No need to apologize, ABGs are not for everyone. First off, there is the generally larger body shape. Then the concerns with feedback when amplified, finding a good protective case, not to mention the issues with amplification in general. It’s really no difference between loving a Rick vs a Lakland vs a standard P, it’s all,personal ,preference …. What works great for me might be terrible to,you

Find what feel/sounds/plays,great for,you, that’s what matters 4, 5 6 ,7 or more strings, active vs passive long scale vs short, amplified vs a clean signal, that’s all personal preferred

Very nice. I looked them up and they sound great. Love the ebony board sound a lot. Not seen an ABG with that.

Do you have any band recordings with you playing this bass?
