I know the company is no longer, but there are a LOT of Acoustic Image owners still in the trenches.

I've had a few Acoustic Image Focus & Clarus heads, but never had much luck with the lightweight padded cases they come with; far too polite for my needs. You can see where the aluminum corners on this amp have been bent up many times on the job. After trying a bunch of hardshell cases, I've settled into using a Nanuk 910 as a great balance of weight and protection for my regional gigs. It is tough enough that I have zero worries anywhere in the car load. I cannot say I would trust this for general luggage check in with the airlines, but I have no faith in anything with them.

No financial interest here; I purchased mine off ebay for approx. $70 & intentionally went for the unlined version, then added some surplus foam.

Man, that's funny timing - Last night, I just got that thermal overload that all ya'll were warning me about for the first time keeping my AI head running inside the hardshell case I rigged up with PSU and tube preamps on top. It was a pretty slick idea, female ports (power, 1/4", and Speakon) in the back of the case so the amp could live in there permanently. Back to the drawing board for me, though.

The last time I tried to design a “use-inside-the-box” case, I ended up over heating it and then frying my amp by shorting the crappy speakon out adapter cable I had made after pulling it in and out of the case too much.

I finally worked out all of the amp’d tone stuff I’ve been puzzling with the replacement amp, so I figured it’s time to redesign the case. This 12x12x10 box (eBay, bless it) keeps the amp firm with two pieces of cedar along the sides. Auralex sound foam 12x12 sheets on top and bottom. But, on V2 the amp comes out of the case and is placed on the cabinet(s). On top of the amp (for storage and transport only) is a removable cedar plank pedal board with rubber feet. V1 had everything mounted on the head with Velcro, but the PSU and tube pres get hot, too, so this contributed to the initial overheating. No problem to set it on the floor - keeps the slightly rattley PSU and microphonic tubes less troublesome, too. Space in the back for all the cables. Pretty ideal.

I found this digital-projector case that fits my Clarus SL-2 perfectly.

Old A/V gack FTW! I have a couple of ~30-year-old Anvil Forge road cases that were originally built for commercial VCRs...but my Acoustic Image Focus 1 (series II) head in its original stock soft padded bag fits that Anvil case perfectly!
